4k pedal push

A HUGE 23-man bike raced through Lindley for Huddersfield-based charity the Laura Crane Trust.

Teams battled it out to see who could ride the monster bike fastest from the Black Bull in West Street to the Bay Horse in Acre Street and back.

Sponsors Heaven and Hell nightclub, Yates's Bars, Mitchell and Butcher pubs and the Royal Mail in Chesterfield each entered a team for the challenge.

It is hoped when the sponsorship and donations are collected they will have raised £4,000.

The Laura Crane Trust was set up in 1997 by Jacquie Roeder, Laura's mum, to help battle cancer in young people.

Laura died aged just 17 from cancer.

Jacquie said: "I heard about the 23-man cycle and decided it could be a fun idea to raise money.

"It is brilliant to see so many people trying to raise money to help teenage cancer sufferers.

"In total since the trust started we have raised more than £500,000 and the money really is making a difference.

"We have given money to every hospital that treats teenage cancer in the UK and made things better for a lot of people."

Landlord Terry Rose, who has been in charge at the Black Bull for six years, said he wanted to help because cancer touches so many people.

"I have kids the same age as Laura was and although you hope nothing tragic like that would happen you never know," he said. "I think if people can help they should."

The pub also donated all the takings from a barbecue on the day and the Bay Horse had a raffle and collection.
